A need for anger management is not uncommon… and perhaps a little more complex than people may think. Anger it self is actually routed in the base emotion of fear. For example, there may be a fear that one will not be respected, that one may lose control, a fear of not reaching a deadline etc. The are so many possible examples. The trick in Anger management counselling is to find out what the base emotion or root cause for your anger is. Anger because it is so closely related to fear is then also related to the brain perceiving a threat and therefor anger is therefore on some level a survival reaction – even if it is a situation incorrectly perceived as such by our brain. The touch part about anger is that often the brain signals an anger response before it has even become a conscious choice…. This is where counselling comes in…. changes the brain’s perception of fear and the need for anger and the our ability to have control over our anger.
