Grief & Bereavement

Bereavement is a period of mourning after a loss, especially after the death of a loved one. This process or period varies with the type of relationship one has with the person who has passed away, cultural, religious and individual believes, values and backgrounds.

Grief & Bereavement Counselling

There is no one way that a person should grieve, the grieving process is a very individual and personal process. Bereavement is a period of mourning after a loss, especially after the death of a loved one. This process or period varies with the type of relationship one has with the person who has passed away, cultural, religious and individual believes, values and backgrounds.

Bereavement can become a problem when, after a period of time, your grief impacts your daily life to such a degree that one finds one can no longer work and function in your daily life successfully. This is where counselling becomes necessary. One usually goes through stages of grief but, from time to time, an individual becomes stuck in one of the stages.

Grief Counselling

This can often happen when there was unfinished business, or when the last words or parting with the loved one were unhappy or angry, or when the passing on was a shock or a traumatic death.

It is also possible to get stuck in one of the stages, e.g. anger, bargaining, depression. Guilt can also be an important factor here. Ultimately one wants to get to the point of acceptance but if one does not get there, it can affect ones social, work and family relationships and physiological being. This is where bereavement counselling helps.
