Self-Esteem

Treatment involves individual counselling which looks at the causes of the self esteem as it varies from person to person. This could stem from a specific event like an abusive relationship, being teased as a child, being bullied amongst others.

Issues

Different people have different self esteem issues, it could be body image, they don’t think they are smart enough or have achieved enough in comparison to others which results in them not believing in themselves and which prevents them to advance in life. It can also affect how one deals with conflict, it affects the decisions they make and can lead to suicide and depression.

Treatment involves individual counselling which looks at the causes of the self esteem as it varies from person to person. This could stem from a specific event like an abusive relationship, being teased as a child, being bullied amongst others.

Causes

Very often children with low self-esteem can not communicate this feeling directly as they are too young and may not have the vocabulary or the necessary abstract understanding. These children can then act out feelings of low self-esteem via tantrums, being aggressive, withdrawing, displaying lack of co-operation or not bonding sufficiently with peers for example. These are often warning signs to look out for in young children.

Counselling provides the person with tools required to deal with the issues that cause the self esteem and the ability to move on in life.
